FP: Tell me a bit about yourself, what is your role with Mucky Ducks?

CB: Hi, I am Chloe – I have two daughters ages 8 and 3 years. I started the business when my second child was just 4 months old. I have built the business up entirely myself and after 2.5 years delivering events I decided to franchise. I don’t get to do many events anymore unfortunately, but I do get to train up and support my new team of franchisees.

FP: What Makes the Mucky Ducks Franchise Unique? Why is Your Franchise a Smart Investment for Entrepreneurs?

CB: Mucky Ducks is the first and only entirely edible messy play on the market. No other messy play uses edible ingredients or allows babies going through the oral sensory stage to use this important sense. We combine our messy play offering with weaning and offer a starting solids education at the same time through workshops and babies who brunch. There really isn’t anyone on the market like us.

FP: How many franchisees do you currently have?

CB: Mucky Ducks currently has 6 franchisees. Despite only launching the franchise in January 2024, demand has really taken off. The fact that the franchise model is flexible, low cost and fantastic for parents has attracted interest, but the unique business model for messy play has attracted significant demand as well, a catalyst for our growth.

FP: What Qualities Do You Look For in a Potential Franchisee?

CB: Organised, self motivated, doesn’t mind getting messy- bonus points if you enjoy cleaning and must like babies! I think that unlike most baby businesses you don’t need to be a confident person. I designed the events so that I didn’t have to do any public speaking, because I was terrified of it. I have since got over my fear from running Mucky Ducks and there is of course opportunity to do lots of speaking but if you lack confidence and need someone who understands and can be more of a mentor then we are for you!

FP: One of the biggest fears of becoming a business owner is the potential risks involved. How does Mucky Ducks support its franchisees?

CB: A franchise is an investment like buying a house, not a car. If you need to move on, you can simply sell so I really don’t think there is a risk to buying a franchise. Mucky Ducks was created during Covid and adapted to survive the cost of living crisis so I believe it is unbreakable if it can thrive during both of these very difficult times.

FP: What are your plans for growth over the next 5 years?

CB: To continue to support, mentor and transform the lives of more women through franchise expansion.

FP: What has been your biggest achievement in the past year?

CB: I think that selling 6 franchisees in the first 7 months of being a franchise business is pretty impressive and shows just how unique and innovative we are.

FP: What are your hobbies, and how does your franchise give you the flexibility to relax?

CB: I practise yoga, gym and wild swim, I love the flexibility running my own business gives me, I could never work for someone else again!
